AGREEMENT FOR AN ACADEMIC EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The University of Utah and the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Santa Fe (Argentina) hereby agree to establish an academic exchange for five years beginning in June 1995 that is automatically renewable for a similar period of time unless the parties voice their objection. The terms of the Agreement are as follows:

1. Both institutions agree to collaborate in the areas of teaching and research and to establish, whenever possible, the necessary exchanges of personnel in the context of common programs of studies and investigation.

2. The implementation of this academic exchange will be done through projects whose terms, conditions, and procedures will follow
a) the general conditions stated in this Agreement, and
b) the particular conditions (e.g., special responsibilities, technical and administrative reach, resources, academic duties, etc.) stated in each project agreement. Projects are those undertakings that facilitate the development of human resources, the exchange of scientific and technical information, faculty education and enrichment, student exchange, etc.

3. The criteria ruling the academic exchanges covered by this Agreement will be as follows:
a) Faculty/Researcher Exchange Projects. Criteria
a.1) Travel expenses will be covered by the home institution whereas the accommodation costs and living expenses will be at least in part paid by the host institution.
a.2) The receiving institution will not cover the faculty or researcher salary which will remain the home institution's responsibility.
b) Student Exchange Projects. Criteria:
b.1) Each institution will accept an equal number of full-time students selected by the sending institution. The number of students to be exchanged each year will be by mutual agreement of both parties. Selection of participants will be done with respect to the admission standards of the receiving institution.
b.2) Each student will pay his or her tuition and fees to the home institution and will receive these benefits from the host institution.
b.3) Participants are responsible for providing their own food, accommodation and health insurance
b.4) Both institutions will provide participants with assistance in locating adequate housing, cultural adjustment, and other related student services.
b.5) Participants will not be able to earn a degree while on the program.
b.6) Participation beyond one academic year must have the special approval of both institutions.

4. After the signature of this Agreement, each institution will designate those individuals that will act as the coordinators to follow up the activities that this program will originate.

5. This Agreement may be modified or canceled by anyone of the signing entities through a six months in advance written notification to the other party. However, a cancellation will not affect ongoing exchanges that would have to be completed as previously agreed.

6. The signing institutions may (independently) request economic assistance from public or private organizations to support the exchanges described in this Agreement.
