Extraordinary Architectural Phenomenologies
Architecture Live
This research looks at transformative experiences of the architecturally sublime. Methods include direct architectural experiences, well documented case-studies, surveys, and existing literature. By seeking to understand the profound aesthetics of place, Achitecture Live casts light into (a) an area very little known of human experience, (b) what is ‘ordinary’ or 'normal' in our daily situational engagement of architecture, and thus (c) how to improve our appreciation, respect, design and planning of the built and natural environments.
Great Architectural Experience Course
Testing of meta-cognitive, affective, and representational methods enabling a phenomenological realization of architecture, self, and beyond.

Voluntary Architectural Simplicity (VAS)
Investigating VAS
VAS is a disciplined, spirited, and committed study of one possible architectural response to the major challenges confronting us individually, socially, and globally. VAS seeks the minimal, the fundamentally uncomplicated, the direct and the conscious in order to voluntarily and critically resist the forces of today’s unconscious materialism, empty consumerism, unnecessary complexity, pollution, and life in the fast lane. VAS research develops pedagogies, theories, knowledge and skills to support architectural methods, technologies, ethics, and vocabulary that support such agenda.

Architecture, Culture & Spirituality
ACS Forum
This research revisits the old architectural interest of sacred space and culture in light of the remarkable scientific and professional research on mind and spirituality that is occurring right now. At this time, a great deal of the efforts is launching an international scholarly/research forum composed of individuals interested in the topic.

Recent Research (1993-2005)

Analog-Digital Design Method & Process
For over a decade, graduate studio teaching was used as a research laboratory to find, inquiry, test, and develop new ways of incorporating digital media into the design process. This systematic investigation produced analog-digital methods supporting the design process from initial brainstorm and schematic design all the way to design development and detailing.

Information Visualization Design
As our civilization continues to dive deeper into the information age, making sense of complex data becomes critical. This work takes on this challenge by using architectural expertise to solve information problems facing many fields. The result is the design, construction, testing, and deployment of data environments supporting real time decision making in Anesthesiology, Finance, Process Control, Live Art Performance, and Network Monitoring.
