Design Studio

VAS ABROAD(Forthcom Spring 2010) Final Studio travels to France and Holland to open an inquiry into Voluntary Architectural Simplicity in an European Context. More info to come later.

VAS (spring 2009) Disciplined, spirited, and committed graduate study of Voluntary Architectural Simplicity, as one possible design response to the major challenges confronting us individually, socially and globally.

Second Year Design (fall 2009) Focus on place-making fundamentals and typological methods in the context of a slow, in depth, critical architectural inquiry.

Capstone Project (spring 2006) Graduate students affirm and develop the knowledge and skills gained in their academic careers with the goal of attaining the necessary self-reliance, self-esteem, and self-criticism for professional leadership.

Theory

Experiencing Architecture (fall 2009) Examination of meta-cognitive, affective, and representational methods enabling a phenomenological realization of architecture, self, and beyond.

Design Process & Methods (spring 2007) Investigation of design methods and processes through a comparative and hands-on analysis while focusing on the role that self-object, feeling-intellect, intuition-knowledge, and improvisation-planning play during architectural work).

Communications

First Semester Communications (fall 2004) Introduction to graphic foundations through a hands-on, experience-based pedagogy.

Second Semester Communications (spring 2006) Study of communications through architectural design and making — in collaboration with studio and construction classes.
